To tell you the truth, I just recently caught up with Naruto, and I can tell you that Kishi does not have that problem.
The problem, as people have mentioned before me, is that Oda could not prolong his individual fights because he could not afford to show off the powerhouses that would show up later in One Piece. The war was hands down my favorite arc of One Piece. That looks to hopefully change in the next chapter, but it won't erase the stink left by the last few months of turds Kishi dropped.įrom what I've seen on my brief and rare visits to the Naruto side, I got the impression that they're just as frustrated as anyone with their war. The problem here is that none of the events that have transpired in the war has had any emotional impact on either of the two main characters. To be fair, it's also doing what it set out to do - which is throwing fans of a bunch of insignificant and ignored characters a bone.
That's pretty much what the Naruto war is. And be sure to sprinkle scenes of the Saiyans on some resort playing pin the tail on the Piccolo. Then drag it out for about a year or so of DBZ anime episodes.
#ONE PIECE MARINEFORD ARC FULL MOVIE#
Now, replace the exploits of every super saiyan in that movie with characters deemed insignificant by their planet destroying powers - characters like Yamcha, Chouzou, Oolong, Yajarobe, and that floating cat thing. I think it was in DBZ movie 12 where a bunch of dead villains and Hitler were resurrected and then killed off again by Goten and Trunks. And he tasted bitter, heart breaking defeat. It was a very real and relevant experience for the main character - The dynamics of his relationships with the dozens of new and old characters featured changed and shifted every chapter. This becomes even more apparent in the anime.īut all in all, it did what it set out to do.
A lot of key moments in the Marineford war felt either rushed, forced, or just not well thought out (the Gingers showing up, Ace's magma to the back crap, The Sengoku/Kizaru incompetence during the breakout).
